Is the old Starter plan technically the same as the new Free plan?

Hi,

I got an email informing me that I will be moved from Starter to Free plan. It’s completely fine with me as my traffic is fairly low (30MB - 50MB per month).

I learned that the new Starter plan will automatically charge when the traffic exceeds the bandwidth to maintain the site to keep running.

I was just wondering about the old/previous Starter plan, because it didn’t ask for payment info. Did it operate like the new Free plan, in which when it exceeded the bandsiwdth the site would stop running?

@treasuringheart It breaks down like this:

Previous Starter Plan

  • Didn’t ask for payment details upfront
  • Would stay online and incur overages charges when limits were exceeded
  • You would enter payment details once you incurred a debt to Netlify
  • If you did not settle your debt Netlify would suspend your account

New Free Plan

  • Doesn’t require payment details
  • Becomes disabled instead of incurring overages and thus won’t ever incur a debt

New Starter Plan

  • Same as the previous ‘Starter’
  • Will stay online and incur overage charges if limits are exceeded
  • Now requires payment details

Thank you so much for such a clear and precise explanation!

Btw, in my current plan (previous Starter) how do I know if I incurred a debt? I assume I would see it on my dashboard, or get an email from Netlify, is that right?

@treasuringheart, if you had a debt, your account would have been disabled by now (and yes, you’d get notifications via email + see the warning in the UI).

Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
