Custom domain - A DNS zone already exists on NS1

Hi @christian-million,

Thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, I checked Netlify’s NS1 account and the domain doesn’t exist.

There are two solutions for this.

The first solution for this will be to discover which other service you have used this domain with. Then contact that service to have them remove the configuration for this domain at NS1. That is the only solution which allows for using Netlify DNS for this domain name.

NS1 won’t tell us who the other company is that already configured this domain with their service. This means you will need to determine which other services you have used for DNS service for this domain and contact that company to get this removed.

There is another solution. Instead of using our Managed DNS, you can also use external DNS method for the custom domain at Netlify.

You can also start by using external DNS method for now while you work with the other company to remove the DNS configuration they already have at NS1.

Thank you @Melvin. Perhaps this has something to do with Google Domains transferring to squarespace, then. I appreciate you checking.

hey @luke
I’ve the same issue as @frle10

where Netlify prevents me from setting up a project with a domain bought at namecheap.com

Can you help me resolve this by deleting DNS zone at NS1 which probably already exist under my Netlify account?

Hi @Kibmeister,

I’ve checked and that domain doesn’t exist on Netlify’s NS1 account. We have a Support Guide that should be able to help you here:

Hello Melvin,
Please help me clear the dns records for this domain; lidupedfoundationug.org from Netlify’s NS1 account. Previously, I had added a netlify hosted site on this domain which I deleted later on. Now when I try to configure this domain to my netlify account, it’s showing this error.

Have you added the verified-for-netlify TXT record yet @godwill1224

Thanks for reaching out.
I am not using the domain name for any other service.

As per the support-guide I previously shared, you need to provide proof you control the domain by adding the verified-for-netlify TXT record.

I have done this;

Hi thanks for your patience. I have removed the DNS zones from your domain.

Hello,
I am still getting the error;

Ahh I see. I misunderstood. Give this guide a read through, hopefully it will solve your problem. Let us know if it doesn’t.

Hello @SamO ,
Unfortunately this guide didn’t help because I bought the domain from Namecheap.
Please help me delete the old dns records for this domain; lidupedfoundationug.org from Netlify’s NS1 account. Previously, I had added this domain to a netlify hosted site which I deleted later on. Now when I try to configure this domain to a new netlify hosted site, it’s showing this error;

Hi, okay and you reached out to NS1? Often this happens that NS1 has a few records in their ‘parking spot’ and a simple email should remove this.

Hello Sam,
I reached out to NS1 and nothing seems to work, I am still getting the same error.

Have you used this domain on Netlify before @godwill1224?

The DNS history available here for lidupedfoundationug.org shows the name servers have been changed on nsone.net servers and then back to registrar-servers.com servers several times.

Yes, I have used lidupedfoundationug.org before.
I then deleted the site and added a new site, but when I tried to add the same domain to the new site I kept on getting the same error, so I tried to guess the old DNS records several times.

let me try to add the original DNS records back

Hi there @godwill1224 . This domain lidupedfoundationug.org is not in our NS1 account. You will need to contact NS1 to establish where it is being held.

Thanks!

Hello,
Great news! I contacted NS1 and they deleted the lidupedfoundationug.org zone from the NS1 parking account. Everything is working perfectly now.

Thank you so much for all your support, am forever grateful.
