Account Suspension/Ban

Hi,

I am new to Netlify and attempted to register an account with GitHub but received an authentication error that claimed my email was already being used. This was strange to me because I have never used your service. To further confirm this, I went through my email to see if I previously created an account and forgot but I had no emails from you all confirming account creation. Nonetheless, I reset the password to the account and attempted to login but was told that it had been suspended. I submit a support request detailing all this information and received a response asking for clarification on what I intend to deploy to which I responded:

"I am planning to deploy my portfolio and a couple of portfolio projects for potential employers. My first portfolio project is an Amazon-like webpage that displays bestselling books. My second project is a static Notion-like webpage that displays various notion templates and information about them.

Also, would you mind informing me of how my login attempt was deemed suspicious. Again, this was my first time using your service so I’m not sure what I may have done to trigger any alarms. I do use a VPN on my laptop so maybe that caused an issue? Please let me know, thanks again!"

Within seconds of sending this, I received the following response:

"We regret to inform you that your account has been flagged due to increased potential for fraudulent behavior. As a result, we are unable to enable your account. We understand that you may have questions regarding the ban; however, please note that we will not be able to provide further review or additional reasoning for this decision.

We appreciate your interest in our services, and while we understand this may be disappointing news, we take the security and integrity of our platform very seriously. Our Fraud and Abuse Team has thoroughly reviewed the situation, and based on their assessment, the decision to disable your account has been made. We value your understanding and cooperation."

I am very confused regarding this decision as all I tried to do was create an account. Additionally, it does not seem like my response was even reviewed as the email seems to have been an automated response. I’m having this same problem. I submitted a support request to appeal the suspension. I received an email to which i replied saying i was studying and needed to learn deployment, even linking mt github account. I almost immediately received reply saying "We regret to inform you that your account has been flagged due to increased potential for fraudulent behavior. I don’t understand? My github has the same email address and is a public account? why was i suspended on the first day i signed up and why can’t it be reviewed and reversed?

The key thing to focus on in their message is:

we will not be able to provide further review or additional reasoning for this decision

The translation is that they will not look into why you’ve been suspended/banned or provide explanation.

Happened to me as well… Either they screwed up their flagging system big time or they really hate new customers…

My account got banned before i even verified my email and the appeal was rejected so fast nobody could’ve even read through everything.

Would be great to receive a response from an actual human on this, not just a system instantly banning you and rejecting your appeal.

It’s likely “AI Powered”, and to save yourself time you can look through the responses they’ve given to all the threads that I linked to in that other post.

The response that you will get, even when delivered “by a human” will largely be the same “canned response”.

It’s obviously unfortunate for you, and perhaps also for Netlify, but you shouldn’t sweat it and just go with another provider. Everyone has things to do, and there’s no point waiting around.

You could always migrate to Netlify if they ever do discover & resolve an issue with it.
