Hi @johnnboy1, I do see this domain being used by another active site.
If you have access to the account where this domain is already used, delete it there and it will become available on the other account.
If this isn’t possible, we can delete the domain from the current site if you create a DNS verification record. There is more information about this here:
Please let us know when the verification record is working and/or if there are any questions.
Okay I have updated my DNS TTL and I have also set up the TXT record the article you posted refers to.
Please don’t switch it over yet I’m still working on some changes.
When it does switch, I’m assuming that I point my A record to the same IP address that my puro-co-nz.netlify.app site currently uses (104.248.60.43)?
If I was able to get the previous owner to relinquish the domain, would I be able to take over the domain instantly? i.e. if he removed the domain from his account could I take it over within a few minutes of that happening?
Hi, @johnnboy1, I do see the verification record but I didn’t remove the domain from the existing site.
For the DNS records, no, do not use 104.248.60.43. The instructions for the DNS records needed can be found here.
If you are not using Netlify DNS we recommend using www (or some other subdomain) as primary also. There is more about this in this blog post.
For the apex/bare/root domain use an A record for 104.198.14.52.
For www (or other) subdomains use a CNAME record pointing to the site at Netlify (like example-site-name-here.netlify.app). Then make the domain name with the CNAME the primary domain for the site at Netlify.
Once the domain is deleted from the first site, it will immediately stop working and become available for use on the new account.
If there are other questions about this, please let us know.
