Hello Netlify Support,
I’m currently on the new Free (credit-based) plan and I’m considering upgrading to a paid plan (Personal or Pro) for about one month.
Before I upgrade, I want to confirm:
-
After upgrading from Free to a paid credit-based plan, can I manually downgrade back to the Free plan from Usage & billing > Plan details > Change team plan?
-
If I downgrade before the end of the billing cycle, how will billing work for that month?
-
Is there anything I should be aware of (for example, any limitations or side effects) when moving from Free → paid → Free again on the new credit-based plans?
Thank you!
Yes, you can absolutely downgrade back to the Free plan before your paid plan period ends. Netlify handles this through their billing settings.
A few things worth knowing:
- Go to Team settings > Billing and you should see an option to change your plan.
- Your paid features will typically remain active until the end of your current billing cycle.
- Any usage that exceeded free tier limits during your paid period won’t be charged retroactively after downgrading.
- Your sites, deploys, and settings will all remain intact. You just lose access to the paid features.
One thing to watch out for: if you’ve set up features that only work on paid plans (like analytics, background functions, or certain build minute limits), those will stop working after the downgrade. Make sure you’re not relying on anything paid-only before switching back.
I’d also recommend checking the Netlify pricing page for the latest details on what’s included in each tier, since they’ve updated their plans recently.
