I am writing to you under extraordinary and critical circumstances regarding the suspension/blocking of our project hosted on Netlify Edge Functions.
We are a group of users and developers based in Iran. As you may be aware, we are currently facing severe, near-total international internet blackouts compounded by highly unstable regional conditions. In times like these, keeping a connection to the global network is not a luxury—it is a vital lifeline for our safety, education, and basic human communication.
Because of these restrictions, we configured a lightweight, non-commercial HTTP relay (IR-NETLIFY-RELAY) using Netlify Edge Functions to help individuals in our community access open educational platforms and essential web services.
We want to formally assure you that:
Strictly Non-Commercial: This project is entirely non-profit and run by volunteers. We do not sell traffic or charge users.
No Malicious Intent: The code is a simple, transparent proxy designed exclusively to bypass strict regional censorship. It is not used for DDoS attacks, scraping, crypto-mining, or any malicious activities.
Vital Lifeline: For many students and tech professionals here, this repository and its deployment are the only ways to stay connected to global knowledge and open-source tools.
We understand that Netlify has strict Terms of Service regarding high-bandwidth proxying. However, we humbly ask for your empathy and a temporary humanitarian exemption given the crisis we are enduring. If there are specific configurations, traffic limits, or adjustments we need to implement to comply with your infrastructure without getting completely blocked, please guide us.
Losing access to Netlify means losing a crucial window to the free world for many innocent people. We deeply appreciate your time, understanding, and support for an open and accessible web.
Thank you for your global citizenship and compassion.
Netlify, I ask you to join the “Make Iran Great Again” => MIGA campaign. In the future, when Iran is free, we Iranians will remember that you were one of those who stood for our right to free internet access and gave us temporary space and support when we needed it.
We are in the worst situation. We are in the worst internet connection conditions and the internet has been shut down in Iran for more than 82 days and our use of these services is only for the purpose of establishing integrity, even in a limited way, to the global internet. Please help.
We are currently navigating extremely difficult circumstances regarding internet access in Iran. While we fully understand that your platform wasn’t specifically designed for this purpose, we would deeply appreciate any form of support or flexibility for the Iranian community during these times. Thank you for your understanding and for providing such vital tools
@Netlify Please stop blocking #IR_NETLIFY. During Iran’s internet blackouts, projects like this are a vital connection to education & the open web — not malicious tools.

Subject: Request for Review and Reinstatement of Our Edge Function Project
Dear Netlify Support Team,
I am contacting you on behalf of a group of developers and users in Iran regarding the recent suspension of our Edge Function project. Due to severe and ongoing internet restrictions in our region, many individuals have lost access to essential educational platforms and open-source tools.
To support our community, we deployed a small, non-commercial HTTP relay using Netlify Edge Functions. The project is volunteer-driven, strictly non-profit, and designed only to provide minimal, essential access for users affected by regional censorship. It does not involve any harmful, abusive, or high-risk activity.
We fully respect Netlify’s Terms of Service and have no intention of misusing your infrastructure. If certain limitations, configuration changes, or traffic adjustments are required, we are fully prepared to implement them in accordance with your guidance.
Given the humanitarian nature of the situation and the critical role this project plays for many users, we kindly request a review of the suspension or instructions on how we can modify the project to comply with your policies while maintaining basic functionality.
