I have been experiencing an issue logging in over the past couple days. I was able to login, during which time I purchased a domain. Trying to login to a different machine to work on DNS records, I was unable to login. I am now unable to login on any machine.
Github login gives an error, “NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID”
Email login just displays a ‘Something went wrong’ message.
Hi, @danielbates95. In most cases, this is being caused by local anti-virus or firewall rules at an ISP. The anti-virus or ISP hijacks the DNS lookup and returns a wrong IP address. This IP address then won’t have a working SSL certificate and that results in the error. We can confirm this if you tell us the IP address returning the incorrect SSL certificate.
The solution for this differs depending on the cause. If it is anti-virus, then make an exceptions for both app.netlify.com and api.netlify.com. If it is the ISP cause this, then the solution is to contact the technical support for the ISP.
If there are other questions or concerns, please let us know.
Hi @luke, thank you very much for the prompt reply and info!
I do not have any antivirus currently running (other than windows defender) on either my pc or macbook, so I am guessing it is at the router/ISP level. I double checked my Chrome permissions to allow redirects/flagged ‘insecure’ content for both app.netlify and api.netlify I am unsure of the IP address returning the SSL error - how might I go about doing that? I suppose it is looking like an ISP issue. Do you happen to know off the top of your head if this issue is something that ISPs are usually able to resolve?
Another thing I am unsure of is how I was able to login once last night, and purchase a domain through netlify DNS. I am unable to login now even to copy the existing records to another hosting solution
