Hi @overnightbillionaire :wave:t6: ,

You are welcome to email in here as you are on a pro-tier or higher but it may delay our response time.

I found [this video] that might help you set up your DNS in the meantime.

my problem not solved …I want urgent help

I already buy pro plan so why you people not solving problem. this is cheap support for us. iI hate about this

Hello Netlify Community,

I’m reaching out to seek advice and potential solutions for an issue I’ve been encountering with my domain. Despite numerous attempts and communications with both Squarespace (my domain provider) and Netlify support, I am still facing a roadblock.

Issue: I am trying to add my domain, flussovisivo.com, which I purchased from Squarespace, to my Netlify account. Each time I attempt this, I encounter the error message: “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1, the DNS provider backing Netlify DNS.” Squarespace has assured me that they have deleted any conflicting DNS zones, but the issue persists.

Steps Taken:

  • Updated Name Servers on Squarespace to point towards Netlify.
  • Contacted Squarespace support; they confirmed the deletion of conflicting DNS zones.
  • Reached out to Netlify support but still awaiting a resolution.

I have noticed in the forum that a few others have faced similar issues. I am wondering if anyone who has successfully navigated this problem can share their insights or steps they took to resolve it. Specifically, I’m looking for:

  1. Any specific steps or settings that I might have overlooked in configuring the domain on Netlify.
  2. Insights into how to effectively communicate this issue to NS1 or Netlify support for quicker resolution.
  3. Any alternative approaches or workarounds that have worked for similar situations.

I am relying on this domain for an important project, and any help or guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Hi, @SL654. Regarding alternatives, one is to not use Netlify DNS and to use the external DNS instructions instead:

Regarding how to communicate the issue to NS1 support, one common scenario that occurs is that NS1 will detect domains still pointing to NS1 but without any DNS zone configured. When this happens they create a parking zone for your domain that no one but NS1 controls. There are “good reasons” that they do this. (I won’t go into why this is done but, please trust me here, it is an attempt to do the right thing. If they did not do this, it would be a worse scenario.)

To get this fixed, I would say something like this when communicating with NS1 support:

I’m trying to add my domain flussovisivo.com to Netlify DNS which is built using NS1’s DNS infrastructure. Netlify DNS is saying that there is a conflicting DNS zone at NS1 for my domain.

I suspected that the conflicting zone belonged to Squarespace. They also use NS1 DNS infrastructure and I registered the domain through them. However, they have stated that they deleted their DNS zone for my domain at NS1.

Netlify support said it was possible that there was a “parking zone” for my domain at NS1. I am the owner of the domain and I can provide proof of that. For example, I can make TXT type records for verification if that would help. Can you help me free up my domain at NS1 so I can use Netlify DNS?

If you copy/paste that above into an NS1 support ticket, in most cases you will get same day resolution of the issue.

If that doesn’t help or if there are any questions, please let us know.

Thanks Luke,

Yesterday I received this reply from NS1 “The zone was secured in our internal parking zone. Just now we just cleared it up from the parking zone. You should be able to add/access it now on Netlify.”

However, on the Netlify panel (under Domain Management), when attempt to proceed with " Set up Netlify DNS for your domain", after I click on “Add Domain” I still get that error “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1, the DNS provider backing Netlify DNS. Please contact NS1 with the domain name for support.”

Thanks

Sure seems like there is still something at NS1 for that domain:

When I use this third party tool:
flussovisivo.com | DNSViz

…it mentions an expected set of nameservers, which are shown in your whois record. But, it ALSO mentions an unexpected set of nameservers, dnsX.p04.nsone.net (for 4 different values of X), which can also be seen here - which I read to mean “NS1 (still) have some configuration for your domain there”:

 % host -t ns flussovisivo.com dns4.p01.nsone.net
Using domain server:
Name: dns4.p01.nsone.net
Address: 198.51.45.65#53
Aliases:

flussovisivo.com name server dns1.p04.nsone.net.
flussovisivo.com name server dns2.p04.nsone.net.
flussovisivo.com name server dns3.p04.nsone.net.
flussovisivo.com name server dns4.p04.nsone.net.

I’d recommend asking them to re-clear things and feel free to share the above details with them to help them find the remaining copy
