Please help: I’d like to maintain the settings for my domain in my account with Netlify
Site: Risqueshirts.com
Site currently : registration held by TeeSpring.(https://risqueshirts.com/)
I have control of this domains DNS
I did ask the Netlify AI and it pointed me to [Support Guide] “another site is using this domain” Verifying domain ownership for Netlify production domain
I’m following the directions there. But need a forum post link to complete the TXT record. This record will be there shortly today.
Thank You
Paul
Typical AI, generating word salad but speaking with authority.
Doing that is only necessary if you find that you cannot add your custom domain to your account because you get an error about it being in another Netlify account.
Which isn’t what you’ve described.
If I’m interpreting correctly, your site is currently with TeeSpring and you have your domain risqueshirts.com
pointed to them, via:
If that’s the case, and what you’re trying to do is point the domain to Netlify, the instructions to follow are:
However I’m not sure precisely what you mean by:
What “settings” are you referring to?
When I go to apply for the permission of setting my own DNS, and maintaining my own account with my own domain in Netlify, I get the message that my domain is already registered.
Which is as it should have been. However, I’ve deleted my store connection in TeeSpring, as I want to use it with Printify.
After talking to TeeSpring via support, they say, “we aren’t controlling that” Which isn’t correct in my opinion.
The IP address that my RisqueShirts.com points to at this moment is of my own server, and not TeeSpring.
I want to point my domain like this:
risqueshirts.TLD => risque-shirts.printify.TLD
If I understand Netflify correctly, I need to have control of my domain by registering it like I tried in the above screenshot.
Thank You for your time,
Paul
A final reply from TeeSpring: they can’t do that for whatever reason:
Hello Paul,
Thanks for writing in, thanks for your kindness and patience on this matter. We apologize for any inconvenience that you’ve faced, we will do our best to give you a solution as soon as possible.
We cannot do so since the domain does not belong to us, you need to contact Netlify.
Feel free to reach out if you have any question.
Best Regards,
Team Spring.
@risqueshirts I cannot see your screenshot above, it shows as “flagged by the community” to me, but it was probably just the forum software being overly aggressive.
The main two questions are:
- Where is your domain registered?
- Where do you have your DNS hosted?
That makes perfect sense.
You have a domain (somewhere) and have pointed it to TeeSpring.
You’re now trying to point it somewhere else, you can do that at your leisure, it doesn’t involve TeeSpring.
I did wonder why they flagged a screen shot from Netlify’s own pages.
I registered my domain with 20i, a registrar in the UK. I control the DNS completely at 20i.com.
The screenshot showed that Netlify will not let me register my domain because it is already registered on the Netlify platform by someone else (TeeSpring)
I’d like to manage that domain on my own, using Netlify.
Then you would make your changes via that.
If the aim is to point the domain to another non-Netlify system I’m confused as to why you would want to manage it via Netlify, but you may have some other requirements you haven’t mentioned yet.
If what you’re trying to do is manage your DNS via Netlify DNS, you would do so by pointing your nameservers to Netlify.
The documentation for that is here:
Perhaps I’m confused.
Is pointing a www address like www.something.TLD to an address like www.this.TLD and having it show up as www.something.TLD in the end users browser, one of the offerings by using Netlify?
This is what I’m trying to achieve. Just as TeeSpring had done for me.
mysite.TeeSpring.TLD showed up as www.risqueshirts.TLD in the end users browser.
Am I just being dense?
Regards,
Paul
Or is there a way to oust the organization that holds my domain as registered at Netlify?
I had no issue doing a redirect using my own DNS. But that is not what I wanted to achieve.
Or maybe determine who they are?
Thank You
Ok, I finally understand what you’re trying to do.
You’re trying to serve risque-shirts.printify.TLD
while keeping the URL as risqueshirts.TLD
I certainly wouldn’t say it’s one of the primary use-cases of Netlify, normally people host sites on Netlify, but you can proxy traffic using:
I’d love to be able to. Is there a way to gain control of my domain, risqueshirts.TLD, I can’t yet, Netlify is telling me someone else has it registered at Netlify.
I’d also love to explore other uses, but I’m starting with the redirect function first.
Thank You
If that is the case, then the AI was also correct, and you need to add the TXT record as specified here:
https://answers.netlify.com/t/support-guide-another-site-is-using-this-domain-verifying-domain-ownership-for-netlify-production-domain/13765?utm_content=ask-netlify
The value you would use is:
https://answers.netlify.com/t/need-control-of-my-domain-within-my-netlify-account-but-it-is-under-teesprings-control-and-they-dont-understand-how-to-respond-to-my-request/123634
Hi,
This is a protection mechanism against domain takeover, once a domain was used once by someone. It was, at some point, used by TeeSpring (on your behalf) so it is now “protected”.
Please contact the Support team using this form: Support and select “Site/DNS Transfer” from the dropdown. You will receive assistance and the domain will be unlocked for you to connect it to your own team.

Awesome, Thank You so much @ramon.snir
Have a great day!
@risqueshirts Seems like @ramon.snir wants to jump in and help you personally, no point me trying to provide assistance from the outside.
Best of luck.
