Meet Sid! Sid is a Support Engineer at Netlify! Sid met with our Community Manager to share a bit about their background and how they want to contribute to the Netlify community!
Could you share a bit about your background and journey to your current role?
I joined Netlify straight out of a bootcamp where I focused on backend engineering. My journey into tech was a significant career shift from my previous work in social services and customer support roles. I was attracted to the tech field because it touches so many areas, from PaaS companies like Netlify to nonprofits. The vast possibilities within tech really intrigued me. I started experimenting with coding and found that I enjoyed it—it sparked something in me. Now, I’m a fan of Ruby, and I’ve also dabbled in JavaScript and Python.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
The team is hands down my favorite part of working here. The support team, in particular, is incredibly welcoming and supportive. In fact, the entire company has a great culture—everyone is nice and always willing to help out.
Any hobbies or interests you’d like to share with the community?
I have several hobbies outside of tech. I enjoy biking, swimming, and running, and I try to soak up the sun whenever it’s out—especially since I’m based in Chicago.
What is your favorite recent Netlify feature release and why?
My favorite feature release is Visual Editor! As the liaison for the visual editor pod, I’ve been involved since we acquired Stackbit, and I’ve seen how useful it is for our team.
Areas of Expertise
Could you describe your role within the support team?
I’m a Support Engineer, responsible for daily interactions with customers, troubleshooting issues, and engaging in various side projects. A significant part of my role involves collaborating with the visual editor team to stay updated on new features. Additionally, I create comprehensive support guides and address knowledge gaps to enhance the customer experience.
What are your main responsibilities and areas of expertise?
My areas of expertise include visual editors, redirects, forms, and tasks related to administration and billing. I focus on ensuring smooth customer experiences in these areas.
Are there any specific projects or initiatives you’re currently working on that you’d like to highlight?
I played a key role in assisting customers during the transition from Stackbit logins to their new Netlify accounts. I also provided support throughout the migration process from Stackbit projects to Netlify sites with Visual Editing, ensuring a seamless experience for our users.
Community Engagement
How do you see yourself contributing to the Netlify forums/community?
I’m active in the forums, where I answer questions and contribute to support guides. I enjoy engaging with the community and helping out wherever I can.
I’m interested in creating video support guides. I find that videos can be really helpful, especially when you can pause and follow along step by step.
Can you share some best ways our community members can engage with you?
The best way to engage with me is by tagging @sid.m in posts. I prefer this over direct messages because it allows others to learn through the process.
Are there any particular topics or discussions you’re passionate about and would like to participate in?
I’m passionate about anything related to the visual editor portion of the platform. I’m deeply involved in it and enjoy sharing my knowledge whenever I can.
