HTTPS error after 48 hours has not given me a cert

Hi,

my domain trafficwrks.com, is not getting its https cert, my domain is still with my old host but I have changed the A and CNAME record to point to Netlify, which seems to be correct.

Can anyone help to see if there is something I’ve gotten wrong, been troubleshooting for a few hours again and I just can’t figure it out.

thanks!

@JJ84 Your CNAME record for the www seems wrong, it looks like you’ve followed the apex instructions for it.

Follow these instructions for the www:

https://docs.netlify.com/domains/configure-domains/configure-external-dns/#configure-a-subdomain

Thanks for the reply, but i am not sending a subdomain over, i am trying to point the main domain name?

@JJ84 www is a subdomain.

As per the documentation I linked:

The documentation then explains that the CNAME record should point to your sitename on netlify.app

The record of apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com you’ve used comes from the apex instructions.

yup i got it, so i’ve added and readded domain in netlify and i am still getting the same problem?

@JJ84 I can’t help you much more, (I don’t work for Netlify).

What I got you to do is just Step 1 of the related Support Guide:
https://answers.netlify.com/t/support-guide-troubleshooting-ssl-certificate-errors/39865

ah I didnt realise, thanks very much for the help mate

Hi @JJ84,

Thanks for reaching out!

Im not finding a site that has trafficwrks.com assigned. I tried looking at trafficwrks, but it seems that site was taken down. Could you provide the URL to the netlify site (for example sitename.netlify.app)?

hi Melvin,

this is what i have set up currently, i wanted to keep my email at the current setup I had. Please let me know what I’ve missed here.

There is no website set up as yet, was trying to first send the domain over and noticed I wasn’t getting the https.

Thanks, Jon

HI @JJ84,

Thanks for following up. I do see that you have the DNS configured, however, I’m not finding a Netlify site with trafficwrks. Could you provide a link to the Netlify UI of the site? It doesn’t appear that trafficwrks.netlify.app is the site.

I’ve redone everything, the link is this; fastidious-biscotti-420dd3.netlify.app

I have assigned domains

I see we were able to successfully provision an SSL certificate.

great thanks! Not sure what happened here!

That’s a great point, DNS propagation delays combined with caching issues can easily make it look like something’s broken when it’s really just a matter of time. Clearing the local DNS cache or using tools like whatsmydns is a smart way to double-check that records are updating correctly worldwide. It usually sorts itself out once everything syncs up.
