DNS config issue Awaiting Netlify DNS

Hi,

It’s been 24h and the “Awaiting Netlify DNS” message is not going away and my site is not reachable. My domain is from another registrar where I did input the domain’s name servers that I get from Netlify.

Prior to that I had copied all DNS records from the registrar to Netlify. I did try with and without the A and AAAA records copied in Netlify too but neither make any difference.

The app site works well so there is no build issue.

When opening that url there is a ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR message.

I did check also with https://www.whatsmydns.net/ and currently with the A and AAAA records in Neltify it shows positive results in some countries, whereas when I removed those records from Netlify it showed only negative results, but neither had any effect on the “Awaiting Neltify DNS” message.

I also tried asking the AI chatbot without success.

This seems to be resolved.

It does seem to be working now, but I am confused because I did add the A and AAAA records for the base domain, not for the www, and it does the redirect anyway, and also on this guide [Support Guide] How do I migrate a domain to Netlify DNS with zero downtime? I understood that we are not supposed to add the A and AAAA records.

Am I not understanding the guide or an I just “lucky” it works?

You’re using Netlify DNS, there’s nothing to configure in terms of A or AAAA. The UI adds the necessary stuff for you.

But it works with them right now and did not without, which is exactly the confusing part.

NETLIFY type (the ones added by UI) records are A records. The ones you had added were incorrect.
