Trying to set up Netlify DNS for custom domain

app url: duit-rocks.netlify.app
custom domain: www.duit.rocks & duit.rocks
I bought this domain through squarespace and need help setting up Netlify DNS.
I have added dns1.p09.nsone.net, dns2, etc. on Squarespace.
When I try to set up with the wizard, I get an error at step 2: A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1, the DNS provider backing Netlify DNS

I’ve done this before with Google Domains but this is my first time doing it with squarespace, so not sure if I am missing a step.

I’d also like to make www my primary domain but it gives me an error that a certificate is being provisioned and I can’t change primary domains at this time.

Hmm,

If you’re getting this exact error message, I don’t think there’s much Netlify can do. The error comes from NS1 when Netlify tries to create a DNS Zone there, so it’s outside what Netlify can control. If Squarespace says they’ve deleted the DNS Zone, there could be a possibility that it’s still either:

  • Registered somewhere else by a previous owner of the domain (if any)
  • Some NS1 internal issue

In both of these cases, you should be able to resolve it by contacting NS1 support,

Edit: I found a pretty helpful link here

You still may need to contact Squarespace to confirm they deleted the DNS zone though.
