Question here: Why does netlify’s doc modal say to use apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com instead of .netlify.app?
Thanks for getting in touch! That’s a great callout, but with one amendment:
For apex domains, you’ll want to use an ALIAS , ANAME , or flattened CNAME record, if your provider allows it. When using one of these records, it should indeed be pointed to apex-loadbalancer.netlify.com
, as you noted above.
For subdomains, you’d still want a CNAME record pointing to your site’s netlify.app
domain. You can find more detailed information on this setup in this documentation.
I’ve edited the above instructions to include this information as well. Thanks again!
Please may you assist me as I believe I am on the correct thread.
I tried to update my DNS settings for financeforhippies.com but the website is still down. The website is hosted on Netlify but I think the name is reserved on Godaddy. Please assist as I need the website to be live but I do not know which DNS settings to delete/remove. I have attached a screengrab of the settings I updated on Friday
Hey @Mr_MediaX ! Thanks for joining us here. It looks like you are combining two methods of setting up DNS – both the external method and using Netlify DNS. You’ll want to choose just one to get the site live. Since you have a DNS Zone for this domain active in Netlify (aka if it’s in your domains tab, you have a DNS zone for it here), it will be easier to use the Netlify DNS option. You will need to set up Nameserver DNS records at your registrar, specifically these ones:
You will also need to delete the A record from your screenshot that contains 75.2.60.5, as well as the CNAME you have there.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much. This seemed to help and the website is live again as I also had to renew the SSL certificate.
However, when using DNSChecker.org under A Records it show green ticks for www.financeforhippies.com, but all CNAME Records shows red crosses which I believe means it has not propagated. My apologies as I’m a beginner here, so I’m a little confused as the website seems to be working but obviously I would like it to work for both records as I know that this is ideal for our SEO as well
Hi @Mr_MediaX,
Since you’re using Netlify DNS, you don’t need to configure a CNAME Record
or an A Record
, you would just configure the Netlify Name servers mentioned here:
Which I’m showing has been done:
dig financeforhippies.com NS +trace | tail -n 6
financeforhippies.com. 3600 IN NS dns1.p05.nsone.net.
financeforhippies.com. 3600 IN NS dns2.p05.nsone.net.
financeforhippies.com. 3600 IN NS dns3.p05.nsone.net.
financeforhippies.com. 3600 IN NS dns4.p05.nsone.net.
;; Received 139 bytes from 198.51.44.69#53(dns3.p05.nsone.net) in 35 ms
I’m also showing that the SSL Certificate has been provisioned here:

Subject: DNS Zone Conflict with NS1 - Need Help Adding Domain
Hello Netlify Support,
I’m trying to add my domain italiancitizenshipbydescentcost.com to Netlify DNS, but I’m receiving an error message stating that “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1, the DNS provider backing Netlify DNS.”
I understand this requires Netlify to initiate a support case with NS1. Could you please help investigate and resolve this DNS zone conflict so I can successfully add my domain to Netlify DNS?
Here are the relevant details:
- Domain name: italiancitizenshipbydescentcost.com
- Error message received: “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1”
Current DNS Configuration:
It appears my domain is already using NS1 nameservers. Could this be the reason for the conflict? Please help me resolve this so I can properly manage my domain through Netlify DNS.
Please let me know what additional information you need to help resolve this issue.
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Michele

Hi, thank you. This got fixed.
However my GoDaddy domain name registration expired a few days ago.
When I reactivated it, the address “www.financeforhippies.com” works perfectly but “financeforhippies.com” does not work.
Please assist with how I can reconfigure correctly
HI @Mr_MediaX,
Thanks for following up. Ran a command on our end to fix the issue, I’m not sure how it happened but I believe there was an issue with the NETLIFY Record. The domain financeforhippies.com
is now properly resolving. Could you let us know if you continue to have issues?
Thanks! Works perfectly now!
I have a problem with my website being hacked and replaced with a phishing site. I delete the domain and readd domain on my hosting and as soon as I reinstall the wordPress, the hacked site shows up again. The website is www.soulkingmatch.com and I have the dns as:
- dns1.p05.nsone.net
- dns2.p05.nsone.net
- dns3.p05.nsone.net
- dns4.p05.nsone.net
and I get this result: “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1, the DNS provider backing Netlify DNS.”
I need step by step how I need to resolve this issue or if you can help me fix it backend, I’d be grateful.
Warm Regards,
Henry
