HUGO_Version is not accepted. Error deploying Website

I am currently encountering a weird problem. I tried to deploy my first website on netlify and I always get the same ERROR Message from the log:

I already changed the netlify.toml to my current hugo version:

however nothing changed since. I tried restarting hugo, checked if I have the latest commit on github and tried to change the version to 0.57. to test if this would work. In any case I get the error, that the hugo version 0.54 is too old to be used for my selected theme. But my hugo version is 0.74.2 so I do not get why netlify thinks I am using an older hugo version than actually downloaded.

Can anybody help?

Does adding context = "production" to your [build] in netlify.toml work? It should look like this:

	command = "hugo"
	context = "production"
	publish = "public"

Well, that seemed like an easy catch, but apparently it’s not. Sadly, I’d need a repo to check this more, because that’s what I could figure out from your build log and the other stuff that you mentioned?

One thing though, in your build log are you getting anything similar to this, because I couldn’t see it in the one you posted:

If you’re not, it’s probably because Netlify isn’t downloading the Hugo version you mention (probably because of some incorrect config).

Hi hrishikesh,

indeed - there is nothing like this in the log file - therefore I assume you are right. If I take a look at the logs I am seeing this as well:

could this be the issue? I am not sure why it says there is no config file defined because I have clearly a netlify.toml and config.toml - but I will see if I can get a hint there, so far this is not clear to me.

Well, just make sure there’s no typo or extra spaces in the name. I remember once wasting hours to debug a 404 on my website just to find out it was a typo in the filename.

I rechecked my directories and the config files. It wasn’t a typo but still something annoying. The netlify.toml was not in the root directory but one beneath - it was hard to spot but once I changed it the deploy worked fine!

To anyone experiencing similar problems:Please double check if the netlify.toml is in your root directory of your website!
