My organization has a redirect app on Heroku which we’re trying to deprecate and instead use Netlify redirects. We already have a _redirects file in it’s own gitlab repo deployed on Netlify who’s sole purpose is to redirect. Our hosting of our apex domain is on gCloud, and the site we’re trying to redirect to is on Zendesk.
We haven’t had problems with redirects in the past but this time we’re having troubles. The urls we’re targeting to redirect have 4 labels so for example: https://a.b.c.d. I’m wondering if I lack the understanding of Netlify’s redirects in order to make this happen, or if the problem is that the site we’re targeting is on Zendesk.
Hi, @s-wcag. The redirects configured on Netlify only apply to the domains that Netlify serves. If the domain isn’t hosted here, we cannot control the redirects.
That being said, there is no technical limitation that would prevent redirects for working for any level of subdomain. Four levels or twenty, it should work for any valid domain name which is configured correctly for a site hosted here.
If you want to share the actual URLs that are not working, we can research this to find the root cause.
You can post that information publicly or you can private message (PM) that to one of our support staff. I’ve confirmed that PMs are enabled for your forum login. Please keep in mind that only one person can see the PM and this will likely mean a slower reply than posting the information publicly. Please feel free to reply to however you prefer though.
