Lets Encrypt cert on custom domain does not update from *.netlify.com

I am trying to enable https using the built-in Let’s Encrypt option. The SSL/TLS certificate information in the settings page looks correct in that it lists my custom domain name (including www version) as the domains. However, when I check the certificate that is being used it is still the certificate for *.netlify.com. I tried waiting 12+ hours after changing the DNS records and this still happens.

Is there something else that I need to do or what am I missing?

It started working today some time. I have no idea what changed.
