Transferring a project to another team with custom domain

Hi folks, I have a project on my team and I want to transfer it to another team so they can take over it. There is a custom domain attached to it, and I’m just wondering if anything needs to be done before or after to keep the project attached to custom domain.

Hi Nathan, I’m familiar with everything on this guide. It does not mention anything about custom domains though and I’m looking to confirm with someone that there won’t be a drop in connection between the project and the offsite nameserver. Thanks

@stroutcowinterboy I know what you’re looking to confirm, but Netlify usually do just punt people to that support guide, so I figured I could save you some time.

It does mention custom domains, albeit in regards to situations where you are not an owner-level member of the team you’re transferring to, which may or may not be applicable.

In regards to dowmtime it mentions that the self-service flow has immediate transfer, no downtime, but who knows if that’s true, so there’s no harm in asking… you’ll just have to wait for the response.

There won’t be any downtime if Netlify transfers the site and the custom domain to the new team.

You can open a support ticket to get the transfer started, and our team will be happy to assist. We’ll need to know the site you want to transfer and the email address of the owner of the account you want to transfer to.

I actually will need to open a ticket for this, but I’m not sure how that works. Can you point me in the right direction to do that?

For other situations, our support team will have to complete the transfer for you, and to do so we’ll need:

  • the name of the site you want to transfer
  • the associated DNS zone for the custom domain on the site, if any
  • the email of another existing Netlify login that you want us to transfer it to

After you have collected that information, please head to netlify.com/support and choose the transfer option in the dropdown menu so we can assist you with your request.
