I removed the site cranky-feynman-3e3a7b.netlify.app bit that did not remove the two NETLIFY DNS records from the DNS.
I am worried this will interfere with my CNAME record for the www domain name.
And now the site is unavailable. This is really bad 
Removed the DNS record completely and recreated everything I needed solved the unreachable site. Phew.
Case closed.
