I want to add two different custom subdomains under the same apex domain in different sites in different Netlify accounts. However, neither adding it to the site nor adding it to the Netlify DNS worked.
For example, on the first account, I want to add test1.katorly.com; and on the second account, I want to add test2.katorly.com. The two subdomains are under the same apex domain katorly.com.
What should I do?
What I have done
I have tried Ask Netlify - that bot told me to add each subdomain to Netlify DNS in different accounts, however I received the same error message.
Hey there, @katorly this is happening because the custom domain you’re trying to use already exists on Netlify under a different account.
If you have some idea of who might be using the domain (maybe a previous collaborator or an agency you’ve worked with in the past?), the quickest way to get this resolved is for you to contact that person directly and ask them to remove the domain from their account here:
If you’re not sure, please verify domain ownership and let us know by responding here when that’s done. If the verification is successful we can remove the domain from the other account so you can use it on yours.
However, you may have misunderstood me. What I am trying to do is to use subdomains under the same top-level domain for different accounts.
For example, after adding test1.katorly.com to account A, and then add test2.katorly.com to account B, I will get the katorly.com or one of its subdomains is already managed by Netlify DNS on another team error on account B.
I want both account A and account B to use a custom domain name ending in .katorly.com, but currently Netlify doesn’t allow this.
As you’ve realised this is not allowed. What is the use-case that you’re trying to target here? We can enable a setting for Pro+ users who wish to allow others to add the domain owned by the Pro+ account in other accounts.
