Getting published site and server functions to run on Node 26

Hello –

I’ve developed a Typescript/Vite/React app that uses server functions and also the Temporal APIs that are new-ish. Those Temporal APIs are available in Node 26, but not Node 24.

When I invoke my server function on my dev box, it works. When I invoke it on my deployed Netlify site, I get:

{"errorType":"ReferenceError","errorMessage":"Temporal is not defined","trace":["ReferenceError: Temporal is not defined"," at file:///var/task/netlify/functions/createNewEvent.mjs:83:19"," at ModuleJob.run (node:internal/modules/esm/module_job:561:25)" (... a bunch more trimmed) ]}

Following the docs and web searches, I have set my environment variables in my project configuration. Variable NODE_VERSION is set to value 26, and variable AWS_LAMBDA_JS_RUNTIME is set to value nodejs26.x.
After setting those two variables, I went to my most recent deploy, and selected Retry Without Cache With Latest Branch Commit.The logs for that deployment include the lines:

3:48:27 PM: Downloading and installing node v26.9.0...
3:48:27 PM: Downloading https://nodejs.org/dist/v26.9.0/node-v26.9.0-linux-x64.tar.xz...
3:48:27 PM: Computing checksum with sha256sum
3:48:27 PM: Checksums matched!
3:48:30 PM: Now using node v26.9.0 (npm v11.19.1)

This makes me think that my site is correctly using Node 26. However, after all of the above, I continue to receive the same error from my server functions. This makes me think that my functions are NOT using Node 26.

Any guidance about how to set my server functions to use Node 26, or any further help troubleshooting this, would be most appreciated. Thank you!
