Error: custom_domain is owned by another account and I can't fix it

I need to know what I’m doing wrong because when I try to add a custom domain to my site, it gives and error: custom_domain is owned by another account.

Someone also thought I was using the domain in another website but I’m not, I even deleted the domain and re-registered it to try but same error.

Edit: I don’t think I have any other accounts either. Almost 100% sure.

Please help, thanks.

Hey there, @KingCodeSquid

Welcome to the Netlify Forums :netliconfetti: If you are receiving that message, it is happening because the custom domain you’re trying to use already exists on Netlify under a different account.

If you have some idea of who might be using the domain (maybe a previous collaborator or an agency you’ve worked with in the past?), the quickest way to get this resolved is for you to contact that person directly and ask them to remove the domain from their account here:

Netlify App > “Options” dropdown > “Remove domain”

If you’re not sure, please verify domain ownership and let us know by responding here when that’s done. If the verification is successful we can remove the domain from the other account so you can use it on yours.

Hi @hillary,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I don’t have any other accounts and have just registered the domain. To prove that I own it I created a TXT record with the name “verified-for-netlify” and set my value/text as “39160”! Basically, I did the verification.

Edit: Forgot to say which domain I’m using :eyes:. I’m trying to use squidbot.ml as my custom domain, sorry!

Thanks again,

KingCodeSquid

Hi there, @KingCodeSquid

We have freed up this domain, and you should now be able to use it! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much! It worked now
