Custom_domain is owned by the other account

Hey @hrshcdry,
Sorry I missed the ping- could you please review the advice here:

If it turns out that we’ll need you to verify domain ownership, please give us a shout once that’s done and we’ll move forward!

Thanks @jen, I can added the custom domain.

Do we still need the TXT record in our DNS, or it can be remove?

You can remove it :slight_smile: Glad to hear things are otherwise working :tada:

Update: Just realized I had to also delete the domain/DNS zone from the Domains menu, and not just remove it from the project I was using it on. Seems to work now!

Hey folks, I seem to be encountering the same issue while trying to move hubroastery.ca away from my Netlify account to a different one. I’ll go ahead and the text record just now.

Hi @jen
I have got this error “name alessandro.tec.br is conflicting the ownership with other existing zones”.
thanks

Hey there, this is happening because the custom domain you’re trying to use already exists on Netlify under a different account.

If you have some idea of who might be using the domain (maybe a previous collaborator or an agency you’ve worked with in the past?), the quickest way to get this resolved is for you to contact that person directly and ask them to remove the domain from their account here:

https://app.netlify.com/sites/SITE-NAME/settings/domain#custom-domains > “Options” dropdown > “Remove domain”

If you’re not sure, please verify domain ownership and let us know by responding here when that’s done. If the verification is successful we can remove the domain from the other account so you can use it on yours.

@perry
I added the TXT record to alessandro.tec.br domain

We’ll need to talk with our team about how to enable this domain for use on our system, Alessandro. We should have some news for you tomorrow!

Hey @alessandro,

Following up for you; you’ll need to speak to the issuer of tec.br domains and ask that the tec.br domain is added to the public suffix list here: https://github.com/publicsuffix/list/blob/master/public_suffix_list.dat

We recognise these as public suffixes, allowing different accounts to serve their own subdomain.

Hello,

I recently needed to move a custom domain and build from one account to another. I deleted the custom domain on the original account and then recreated the build on the new account. When I try to add the domain I get this error:

custom_domain is owned by the other account

My Netlify domain is tbz.netlify.app.
This domain hosted from an account also had the custom domain. But I deleted that.

I am facing a custom_domain error is already owned in the new account.
The URL is https://laughing-lovelace-0e7434.netlify.app/

Hi @jen and @Pie

I am having trouble releasing two domains from my personal account so that my business account can start using it. We tried to follow the steps from this thread with no luck.

Can you help release them?

fbpdev.contentpilot.net

fbpop.contentpilot.net

@testbuzz,

If you re-add the domain to your original site and then delete the DNS zone from your DNS pane, that’ll clear the error. Else, provide us the domain and we’ll take a look.

@claytoncollie,

I’ve removed the dangling DNS records for this site for you.

@Pie

I tried to re-add my TLD of contentpilot.com and am getting the following error.

“name is already taken, contentpilot.net is conflicting the ownership with other existing zones”

Can you release these?

fbpdev.contentpilot.net

fbpop.contentpilot.net

or just

contentpilot.net

Thankyou @Pie for your help.
It was smooth.

@claytoncollie, that’s removed for you too now. :mage:

@testbuzz, np! :smiley:

@Pie I’m too having this same issue:

custom_domain is owned by the other account

for my domain postwoman.io can you fix any issues with DNS zone?

well, I’m the guy who’s using the domain. I serve my netlify app in that domain with “Custom domain” using A records. I wish to change that to netlify name servers - but can’t add URL under “Team Domains” - it says “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1”

I’ve added TXT records to verify domain ownership. Kindly allow me to set custom domain using name servers.

hi there, we have completed the verification of your domain on our end. Are you able to add it now?

No. it’s still showing “A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1”. Can’t add DNS / domain to site.

EDIT: I used ALIAS metod for hosting. Issues are now solved.
