Hi! can you please remove my previous DNS zones for this domain. Previously, I had added a netlify hosted site on this domain which I deleted later on. Now when I try to configure this domain to my netlify account, it’s showing this error.
Hi @luke , having the same issue with this error for the domain http://www.conversationswithashipwreck.com bought on Namecheap. I was able to manually configure it, but would like to configure it with Netlify’s Managed DNS. Is there a ‘phantom zone’ issue occuring?
Hi, @seventhofseven. I checked and I can confirm that, no, there is no phantom DNS zone issue occurring.
The recommended solution is to delete any DNS zones for this domain you may have configured with other services. Alternatively, you can create an account at NS1 (which is free - there is no charge to do so) and then ask the NS1 technical support to delete the DNS zone there for you.

Hey, @luke I am using namecheap.com as my domain provider and they don’t have a DNS zone at NS1. I have gone through the support guide in this thread but NameCheap also doesn’t have an option to remove DNS zones. Can you check what’s wrong?

Hi, @mkuehb. I checked and the DNS zone does not exist under Netlify’s NS1 account. We have a support guide with instructions about how to resolve this here:
To summarize, either:
- Find the source the DNS zone (which could be Namecheap.com itself similar to the Name.com issues) and delete it there.
or:
- Create a support ticket with NS1 (which requires creating a free account there) and their support team can delete it.

Hey @luke thanks for checking so quickly. I had the domain on vercel before and did not completely delete everything on there, so that’s where my existing dns zone on NS1 came from.
2 years ago I set up the domain arb.is on Netlify.
I deleted it from my Netlify account shortly after.
Now I am trying to set up this domain again and I get this error
“A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1”
Is something that you guys can do?
I think the DNS zone for arb.is already exists on NS1 because I registered it on Netlify 2 years ago.

Hey @SveinnB,
When the DNS Zone exists on Netlify, we say custom domain is owned by another account. In your case, the zone actually exists on NS1 and not on Netlify. We don’t know where it could be configured, maybe you added it somewhere else in these 2 years?
@luke having the same issues as described by others – Namechap domain (midascapital.xyz) and cannot add it to Netlify ( A DNS zone for this domain already exists on NS1 )
I’ve already deleted the NS there. Any chance there’s something from on the Netlify side?

Unfortunately no. As probably repeatedly mentioned in the above thread, this has little to nothing to do with Netlify. Note that removing NS is not enough and you might have to look for an explicit option to delete the DNS zone.

What can I do to remedy this issue?
