Custom 404 / 500 pages on the free tier?

Hello,

I am on the free tier. When I enter a deep link, I get the default netlify 404:

# Page Not Found

Looks like you've followed a broken link or entered a URL that doesn't exist on this site.

That’s ok but I wonder is there a way to create custom error 404 (500) pages? Couldn’t find anything in the dashboard…

Thanks!

One approach I found here…

@Marc You don’t create a custom 404 page in the Dashboard. You create it in your site builder and upload / build it. As the article says, if you have a 404.html file at the top level of your site, Netlify will use that instead of the default error page.

Hi, @Marc. If your site javascript should handle the 404 directly (because it uses client-side routing) , you might consider enabling the following redirect:

This might be better as it will use the client-side routing’s 404 handling (if it exists). If there isn’t any client-side routing a custom 404 is a great solution as well.
