Confirm MX records are working

Is there a way to confirm that the MX records are working and have propagated in Netlify DNS before I switch the nameservers from Godaddy?

Email delivery is super sensitive, and can’t have a disruption.

Hi @kennyklee

If you set up Netlify DNS records the same as those in GoDaddy, prior to changing nameservers you should see no interruption in mail delivery.

Hi, @kennyklee. You can test all records before migrating by making the DNS query to the Netlify DNS name server instead of the default one.

Now, if I have one piece of advice for people troubleshooting DNS, it would be to use dig. Nothing else compares (in my opinion).

If using dig, you can specify the name server to check like so:

dig example.com MX @dns1.p03.nsone.net

So, first install dig:

Second, make a query like mine but replacing example.com and dns1.p03.nsone.net with the correct values for your Netlify DNS zone. This method will allow you to test any and all DNS records at Netlify before migrating.

Also, be sure to disable DNSSEC (at the registrar) before migrating as Netlify DNS does not support DNSSEC.
