Another of My account - Another site is already using this domain

“Another site is already using this domain” error trying to set custom domain “steadyflare.com” on site “silly-banach-802d42”

How can I find which site or user account the domain is registered?

Hey @keberox,
It looks like that domain is under an account owner by someone named Michael. If that sounds familiar, the easiest way to do this would be for you to contact that person and tell them to delete the zone from their account here, at the bottom of this page:

If you don’t know that person, we will have to ask you verify that you own the domain. To do this, you’ll have to create a DNS record that we then check:

  1. Go to do your domain host (Bluehost, Gandi, Google, etc.)
  2. Add a TXT record with the following characteristics:
  • Name: verified-for-netlify. (don’t forget the dot at the end)
  • TTL: default
  • Text/Value: “#13892

Tell us when you’ve done that and we’ll go from there!

Hi @jen, thanks for the quick response.
I am Michael, I own that account, I use a Gitlab.com account to access Netlify but using the Gitlab account where I have the source code of that domain does not show the domain itself.

I will add the TXT record in GoDaddy, thanks!

Hi @jen, I have added the TXT record.

Hey @keberox,
Typically, when someone proves that they own a domain that’s incorrectly attached to another account, we remove the DNS zone from the incorrect account so the actual domain owner can use it on their account. Since you own the other account though, and have several other DNS records attached to it, I’d want you to confirm that you want me to remove the zone from your other account. Is that correct? Unfortunately, you can’t share a domain name across multiple accounts.

The alternative is figuring out how to get you back into your other account. Let me know how you’d like to move forward!

Hi @Jen, yes please lets try to figure out under which account it is, I have checked the ones I remember and I dont see the domain in any of them.
What can I provide you with?

Since we’re digging deep into verification now, let’s move this over to our helpdesk

We have sent you an email to the email address associated with your Netlify account, and we’ll communicate with you through that email to continue resolving this issue.
(Please note that for security reasons, we will not contact you at email addresses not listed in your Netlify account.)

Also, please let us know with a reply here if you don’t receive a message from us.

Hi @jen ,

I also have the same issue. Could you please assist me.
I have also added the ff:

  • Name: verified-for-netlify
  • TTL: default
  • Text/Value: “#13892

We’d need to know what domain you are talking about, @roydenver! Then we can confirm your record and advise you as to whether there are additional considerations.

Oh sorry, it’s “systemoph.com” on systemoph.netlify.app

As far as I can tell, YOU have already configured a site with that name, Roy. You’d use your login via GitHub account that you haven’t visited in the past 9 months or so to find the site and its DNS hosting here

You cannot use a hostname that is already in use, nor can you use a hostname in one account (presumably you have a second account since the other one has not seen a login lately) and host its DNS in a second account, so you may want to put the site in that github account instead for ease of operation.

Or, you could delete the unused DNS Zone that you created, here: https://app.netlify.com/teams/rdronio/dns/systemoph.com#delete-dns-zone - and then after taking the name off your other site, you’ll be unblocked from using it on the new one.

Unfortunately, the email that I used on that github was a company email. So then when I left the company the email which associated to github & netlify (github log in) is already unaccessible(deleted). Though I was able to pull the code.

So basically now, I have personal account on github, which I used to login on new netlify account.

I can’t access this link since the email associated is not accessible.

P.S. I have a same code to deploy but now I used my personal email instead of company email which is linked in github/netlify.

Hi, @roydenver. The usual solution is that you create a TXT verification to prove you control the domain name. We have instructions for this process here:

Once you have created the verification record, please let us know and we’ll remove any references to that domain from the other account. This will allow you to use the domain on a new account.

Please let us know if there are any questions about this process and we’ll be happy to answer.

I already did it as per image above though it doesn’t allow me to add the .(dot) on Name in godaddy’s domain manager.

Thanks in advance

Hi, @roydenver. Thank you for making the verification record. The DNS record can be deleted now as it is no longer required.

The domain as been removed from the other account now.

Please let us know if there are any issues when trying to add it to the new site or account.
