410 redirects (served as 404)

Hi everyone! We need to implement 410 redirects based on our SEO consultant’s recommendation. However, as far as I can tell, the _redirects file in Netlify doesn’t support this. I can only seem to use 404 redirects. When I specify a 410 status code, it ends up being served as a 404 after deployment.

Does anyone have a clean solution for this? Should we handle the 410 (Gone) responses directly within our Next.js application, or is there a way to achieve this through Netlify itself?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @Pitchy ,

Great news: these days anyone can reach out to Netlify Support. First, you can try getting an answer using Ask Netlify, our helpful AI search tool. If your question isn’t answered there, you can submit a ticket using the support form, and we’ll take it from there.

We’re keeping the community around for swapping ideas, sharing tips and tricks, and talking shop with other folks building on the platform — but for support issues, tickets are the way to go.
