404 Not Found - I don't know what to do

Newbie here,

I’ve tried everything (I think I tried/viewed it all correctly) from [Support Guide] I’ve deployed my site but I still see "Page not found”.

I have an index.html, but I still get a 404 error after I click “enter” on my landing page (which is the only thing that populates correctly).

Help?

Thank you,

Joe

@musicjoeyoung Welcome to the Netlify community.

When you download your deploy via the Netlify dashboard, is there an index.html file at /mainpage/, or even perhaps a /mainpage.html file? If not, then you either have to create that file, move that file to this location, or change the link.

Hi gregraven,

There is only an index.html, but in root. That’s the only html file I have. I’m not sure where I’m supposed to create an additional mainpage.html and what should be in it. I made one in my IDE, in the same public folder as the index.html, and the only advancement I’ve made is now when I click my “enter” button, it takes me to a blank page (no 404 error).

Please advise. Greatly appreciative!

Joe

Maybe you should explain more about what you are doing. Your question makes it sound as if you are trying to build a website but have no idea how to build a website. Obviously, this is not something we can help you with here. Are you having a specific issue in transferring files, or what?

Hi.

Ok, so I have my website that is all built (made with React). When I run it on locally on my machine, it works fine. I just assumed loading/deploying it straight from Github would work just fine here, and I do not understand why only my landing page works upon uploading to Netlify.

This is a screenshot of the downloaded deploy.

Add a _redirects file to your public folder with the content: /* /index.html 200.
